Description

This is a HGU-55/P Fixed Wing Aircraft Helmet from Gentex. The HGU-55/P was designed to suit aviators piloting high “G” aircraft such as the F15 and F16 fighter aircraft. The helmet is constructed from a graphite/aramid shell that is high strength while reducing the helmets overall weight. This ensures an aviator’s helmet does not easily cause helmet fatigue from long wear times. The helmets feature a bungee style lens system, chin strap, robust interior padding, in helmet ear cups, communications port and lugs on the masks left and right side for the attachable O2 mask. While these helmets were initially designed and adopted in the 1980’s these helmets still see use within the US Airforce. Overall, this is a great helmet to add to any collection of aviation or Airforce collectables.

The helmet we have available is in good shape overall with a few minor issues. The main issue is that the helmets interior ear cups are no longer attached to the inside of the helmet and are dangling by the connecting wires. Issue 2 is this helmet only has its smoke/dark lens and does not have its clear lens. Moving past the issues everything else about this helmet is in great shape. Included with this helmet is the matching O2 mask that would have been worn in conjunction with this helmet. Based on tags on the helmets liner we believe this one was likely produced in the 1990’s.

The helmet does not have an individual size however we believe it be a large based on the liner sizing tag.
