These are Protech X-CAL LP Special Threat Plates. These plates were designed to provide law enforcement officers with an affordable and lightweight plate capable of defeating common rifle threats. The Protech X-CAL LP’s is a multi-curve special threat ceramic composite armor plate, with a polyolefin spall coating, that is designed to be worn “in conjunction with” soft armor to achieve a Level 3 rating against ballistic threats. Plates are 10×12 shooters cut, are 0.4 inches thick and weigh in at 5.5 pounds each. When worn in conjunction with Safariland/Protech tested soft armor packages the Protech X-CAL LP’s can effectively stop 7.62×39 API BZ/ MSC, 7.62 Nato (M80 Ball), 7.62x54R LPS FMJ and 5.56 Nato (SS109, M855, M193). Overall, these are a great option for upping your ballistic protection without adding much weight or breaking the bank. These are also great for use when training and you do not want to potentially mess your nicer plates up, for weight training or for use as backup plates.
