The 199th Infantry Brigade has been activated and deactivated several times during their history. These activity dates are 1921-1940, 1966-1970, 1991-1992 and 2007 to present. Notable actions of the 199th Infantry Brigade occurred during the Vietnam war. During the Vietnam war the 199th was conducting Operation Uniontown in the Dong Nai Province when the Tet Offensive began in 1968. During the Tet Offensive the 199th defended the US 2nd Field Forces HQ at Long Binh Post from attacks conducted by the VC 275th Regiment.
