US Army 1st SOCOM Patch, Hook & Loop

This is a US Army 1st Special Operations Command Patch (1st SOCOM). After the failure of Operation Eagle Claw the US Army identified a void in its special operation force’s capability at the pre-crisis and low intensity conflict level. In October of 1982 the 1st SOCOM was provisionally established with Brigadier General Joseph Lutz in command. A year later in 1983 it was formally activated. Within weeks of its activation 1st SOCOM would go on to participate in Operation Urgent Fury as well as later seeing combat in Panama and the Persian Gulf. In November of 1990 1st SOCOM was redesignated as the US Army Special Forces (USASFC). With this redesignation they also changed their patch from the horse and lighting bolt to the sword with lightning bolts we associate with US Army Special Forces today.

Now with some history out of the way let’s get back to the patch. These patches are modern recreations of the original 1st SOCOM patch. Patches are hook backed so they can be easily attached to any loop surface. So whether you served in 1st SOCOM and want a nice modern patch for that jacket/hat or are just someone who likes collecting special forces memorabilia then the 1st SOCOM patch is for you.
