This is a vintage US Army 8th Infantry Division Patch. The 8th Infantry Division has been activated and deactivated several times through out their history. These activation dates are 1918-1919, 1940-1945 and 1950-1992. The 8th Infantry Division got their units motto during fighting in Brest, France during the second world war. Colonel Canham, deputy commander of the 8th at the time, accepted the surrender of German General Ramcke. General Ramcke asked the lower ranking Canham to show his credentials.
