These are US Army Gen 4 Improved Outer Tactical Vests (IOTV) in OCP. These vests are the 4th iteration of the Army’s IOTV which has been in use since 2007 when the Gen 1 was first adopted for use. Throughout the 4 generations the IOTV has had updates resulting in each generation being better than the last with the 4th generation largely considered to be best of them. While the 4th generation IOTV has since been replaced with the KDH Modular Scalable Vest (MSV) they are still authorized for use in units who have not yet received MSV’s. The Gen 4 IOTV features a Cordura construction, adjustable shoulder straps, adjustable stiffened cummerbund, generous amounts of MOLLE webbing across the plate bags and cummerbund and is releasable for those times where the armor must come off quickly. Unlike the first 2 generations, the 3rd and 4th generations had a vastly improved quick release system. The updated system utilizes 1.5 inch buckles that are connected to the release point by cables. This means when the carrier is released it just takes 4 easy clicks to put back together as opposed to the 30 minutes or more it would take to reassemble and resize one of the gen 1 or 2 IOTV’s. In addition to the improved release system the Gen 4 IOTV features a refined soft armor cut that’s reduces overall bulk of the carrier making them substantially more comfortable than previous generations. Carriers include front/ rear plate bags, cummerbund, front/ rear soft armor panels as well as cummerbund soft armor panels. Carriers DO NOT include any auxiliary pieces such as DAPs, groin protector or the yoke & collar.
