These are US Army M1917 Wool Uniform Coats in Olive Drab. These coats were worn by US Army Soldiers during the Great War (WWI) period. Not only were these worn by soldiers during WWI they were also worn by actors pretending to be in WWI, allow us to explain. In 2025 Costume Rental Corporation (CRC) went out of business and their massive collection of costumes went up for sale, these authentic M1917 Wool Uniform Jackets were a part of their inventory and were more than likely used for the production of a WWI movie or TV show. Unfortunately, we cannot track down what productions these may have been used on but most of the coats are marked from being in CRC’s inventory so maybe on of you super sleuths can figure it out.
With some history out of the way lets dive into the facts about these uniform coats. The M1917 design replaced the earlier fielded M1912 but was subsequently replaced in the mid 1920’s during the inter-war period. The M1917 Wool Uniform Coat is a single-breasted style of coat with a choker collar that is constructed from Melton wool. The coats feature a button closure, button chest and waist pockets and shoulder epaulets.
