Description
Sold as a Set! Includes 2 Special Forces Collar Insignia and 2 U.S. Collar Insignia.
These are US Army Special Forces and U.S. Officers Collar Insignia. These collar insignia are authorized for wear on a Special Forces officers dress uniform. Collar insignia comes as a pair of 2, one for each side of the collar.
While the Special Forces we know today primarily trace their lineage back to WWII and the FSSF (First Special Service Force) their imagery traces back even further. The crossed arrows of the US Special Forces can be traced back to US Army Indian Scouts who served in the American west. In 1890 the crossed arrows were officially prescribed as the uniform insignia for Indian scouts who had served in the west from 1860 to 1939. During WWII members of the FSSF a joint American/Canadian special operations unit that was established to conduct operations behind enemy lines also wore crossed arrows. Through the years several attempts were made by units to establish the crossed arrows as a distinctive unit insignia, in most cases usage of the insignia was temporary or only to be worn when in theater. As Vietnam wound down things changed for the crossed arrows. In 1973 Colonel WC Norman, Commander of the Security Assistance Force, 3rd Bt, 7th SFG requested crossed arrows like the ones worn by the FSSF. These insignia would be worn by SF qualified personnel either in or enroute to a SF unit. However it wasn’t until 1987 that the arrows were approved for wear by officers affiliated with the 1st Special Forces, nearly 4 decades after their last official usage during WWII.
