This is a 81 mm ammo can used by the US military. These cans are quite large and typically used to store and transport ammunition for 81 mm mortars. These are very secure with a rubber gasket lined removeable lid that locks shut with 2 heavy duty latches. When the rubber gasket is kept in decent shape, it keeps the interior waterproof and airtight. On the sides towards the top end are 2 handles for carrying and transport. Besides storing mortar rounds, these are great for storing food, gear or anything else you need to be secure and out of the elements. They can also be great for more sensitive or delicate items by adding in some padding. overall these are a great storage option and pretty hard to beat for long term storage out in the elements.
