Description
This is a complete Vietnam era M1 parachutist helmet. The M1 helmet got its start with the US Military during WW2 and remained the primary helmet of US forces until it was replaced by the PASGT in the 80’s. While some small changes were made through the years of its service its overall design and assembly remained the same. This example is a “parachutist” variant. That means this helmets liner has a parachutist’s chin strap rather than a standard chin strap. The complete helmet includes a steel pot with chinstrap, liner and reversible Mitchell/ Highlands Clouds helmet cover
Used condition: Used condition helmet is in great shape. The steel pot is free of rust/ dents or major marks. The mid 1960s liner is in good condition, chin strap assembly is complete and intact. The 1965 production helmet cover has some fading on the Highlands Cloud side and has had holes punched in it to route the chinstrap through the cover.
Defect condition: The steel pot of this helmet is in good condition and is free of rust or dents. The mid 1960s liner is dirty, missing its main chinstrap and has some corrosion around the suspension mounting hardware. The 1965 production helmet cover is in overall good condition with no major flaws.
