Description
These are USGI M1961 Combat Field Packs, sometimes referred to as “butt packs”. These Combat Field Packs were adopted in 1961 and were the replacement to the M1956 Combat Field Pack which troops found to be too small. While an improvement over the previously issued M1956 version the M1961 butt pack was eventually found to not be suitable for the jungles of Vietnam. Its heavy canvas material absorbed water adding additional weight to the user’s gear and was subsequently replaced by the nylon M1967 Combat Field Pack in the later 60’s. The M1961 Combat Field Pack is constructed from heavy duty canvas material and features a flapped lid closure with webbing strap closure, storm flap, metal hardware, lashing straps, tie down point on the lid, clear ID window, carry handle, webbing suspender tie in points, “ALICE” webbing and attaches to web belts with 2 ALICE clips. So, whether you’re working on an early Vietnam SOG impression or just need a nice big butt pack for adventuring belt consider grabbing one of these M1961 Combat Field Packs today!
