This is a pair of combat pants in the Afghan National Army Hyperstealth Spec4ce Afghan Forest Pattern. They are for the same cut as the later generations of the US Army ACU pants, with buttoned cargo pockets and hook and loop ankle pockets. They are the standard US BDU sizing you’re familiar with. Material is if 50/50 Nylon/Cotton Ripstop, so they’re durable and great for outdoor wear. Now the long winded part.
A little bit about this camo. Back around 2010 the Afghan government received a contract from the US, yeah we paid for it……, to create and issue their own camo pattern and uniforms. They settled with the Hyperstealth Spec4ce Afghan Forest Pattern. A lot of considerations went into the camo pattern. First off, not all of the country is arid desert wasteland akin to what Mad Max ripped around in that beast of a car, talking about Mel Gibson (he’s at his best when he doesn’t talk). The mountain regions may as well be the little bit of the central Rocky mountains that haven’t been touched by the hippies and their long hair. Second, most combat operations in Afghanistan happen at night (I can attest to this), so a darker nighttime capable camo is needed. Third, the pattern is totally out of the left field. No one else is wearing it because it was made for them. That helps a lot, since it was easy for Terry Taliban to get ahold of old M81 BDU uniforms and virtually everything else the Afghan National Army and other government forces were wearing at the time. Finally, its their own uniform. That is in itself a large thing that shows some independence from all the support they’ve received from other nations. As a side note, Hyperstealth makes some neato camo and know what they are doing.
