Military Fantractor

Description

The Fantractor, sometimes referred to as an “OF Fan”, is a transparent protractor used to help observers identify on a map the terrain he sees on the ground. These protractors are typically used for establishing rough distance and grid for directing fire from artillery, mortars or other indirect fire systems. Protractors are scaled for 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 maps. Typically, once oriented with the map and secured, the radial arms are marked with the direction they point to. This gives you an easy way to determine the direction to the target, from the known point the OF Fan is centered on, while the distance measurements give you an easy way to find the distance to the target. From there, you can use to direction and distance to determine the grid location of the target or point of interest. These are primarily used as a training tool, for when first learning how to pull and find directions and distances from a known point, and are very accurate while a little slow to use and set up.
