Description
This is a grid fleece balaclava from McGuire Gear. The material used is the same as everyones favorite lightweight thermal, the waffle top. With this tried and true material the balaclava is warm while staying lightweight. The balaclava can be worn covering your face while leaving your eyes exposed or pulled down so that your entire face is exposed. The balaclava extends down to the wearer neckline so that it can be combined with other cold weather for better protection against the elements. While it may seem odd that the grid fleece is on the outside, it does serve a purpose. While these are great standalone lightweight CW hats, with the outer grid they can be worn as great helmet liners or as a liner under another hat. With the way the grid faces when worn as such, it helps with airflow and breathability while remaining a warm layer.

Grid fleece material is on the OUTSIDE. Still usable, but looks stupid turned inside out. Or wear it with the fleece on the outside, probably less warm. There is an “improved” balaclava that supposedly has it on the inside.
I’m not even mad, I’m laughing.

As the other reviewer stated the grid is on the outside which… negates the point of the grid. Its cheap so it has that going for it, but he quality is very low quality, and the color in the pictures is much darker than what it really is (a much lighter tan than the pictures show). Additionally it is somewhat short on the bottom end so it doesn’t stuff as well as it should to help mitigate cold weather on the neck area. Obviously securing your jacket neck guard will help but it doesn’t help trap heat like it needs to. I recently used it in sub freezing weather and felt like it did not hold up very well.
